Dominik receiving his gold medal at the Irish No-Gi Jiu Jitsu Championships 2015

The 1st Irish No-Gi Jiu Jitsu Championships was held in DCU Sports Complex in Dublin 3rd of Oct 2015.

For our team this was a major challenge, since we train exclusively with the gi. Nevertheless, two athletes from our team went to Dublin to compete for the title of national champion.

One of our hardest training students Robert Birins fought in the Whitebelt, Lightweight, Adult Division. Unfortunately he did not get the result he wanted. However, at the rate Robert is improving, I am sure we’ll see great things from him in the future.

One of our long time students, Dominik Szerszen won gold in his division (Purplebelt, Middleweight, Master) at the championships. Check out his matches in the videos below. It was a great result for Dominik who hasn’t competed for almost a year. It was great to see him back to his winning ways.

Huge thanks to Robert and Dominik for representing the team on the national stage. Thus proving once again that Alliance Jiu Jitsu is up there with the best.. OSSAAAA!

What is No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

No-Gi Jiu Jitsu or Submission wrestling is similar to Jiu Jitsu competition. However, in No-Gi competition the Gi/Kimono is not worn, instead a rash-guard and shorts is worn. Grabbing material of the uniform is not permitted in No-gi. This creates a different dynamic to the contest, as the lack of grips makes the matches a little faster and slippier.
