Atlantic Jiu Jitsu 10th Anniversary Celebration

At the Clayton Hotel Sligo on October 18, 2025 we had a night filled with fun, music, and great company!

We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our 10-Year Anniversary Celebration.

Your presence made the night truly memorable. Seeing our team come together, from white belts to black belts, new members to long-time veterans, reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

Thanks to all who have supported us from the beginning and down through the years. None of that would be possible without you, our students, coaches, families, and friends.

Congratulations again to all our award recipients for their exceptional commitment to the growth of martial arts in Sligo.

Atlantic Jiu Jitsu presented an “Exceptional Contribution to Martial Arts Award” to Francie Mahon & Micky Downs at our 10 year anniversary celebration.

In recognition of their dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on the growth and development of martial arts in Sligo.

Both men are long standing practitioners of #karate and in the late 90s began to explore Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Royce Gracie was the talk of the martial arts world at the time after his exploits in the #UFC. Using, what at that time seemed an unusual strategy of grappling and working towards a submission hold.

This turn of events inspired Micky and Francie to pursue learning more about the gentle art.

The travelled all over to attend seminars and training in other clubs to try and learn whatever possible. This in a time of limited information and before the internet had become a useful resource for learning about grappling.

Through many years of hard work and perseverance both men established an excellent foundation for Jiu Jitsu to flourishing in #Sligo.

Huge thanks to Katelin & Seán for all their help on orginising the event, they put in an tremendous effort to get it organised.

A big thanks to Odhrán, Dean & and the Band for the great music on the night.

Here’s to the next 10 years of great training, growth, and community!

With eternal gratitude,

Ryan & Morgan
