2018 Highlights at Atlantic Jiu Jitsu

2018 has been a great year for the club and all of its members! There has been some great fun and some fantastic successes for our members. Take a look at a few highlights of the year below.

2018 brought some serious Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legends to our club. The first of which was Reubens “Cobrinha” Charles seminar in January. Cobrinha has given seminars in our gym before, but each time he shares new nuggets of wisdom. A great start to the new year!

Another highlight for the club was the success our members had in the Sub Only 4 competition. This competition, which took place in Dublin in February, saw our team members giving their all on the mats. They managed to bring 5 medals home in recognition of their great achievement.

In March a great movement seminar was held by Mark Oogan, of Bonobo Gym based on improving movement and mobility. Mark Oogan is a movement specialist with a vast experience in sport, yoga, and physical fitness. Mark teaches movement and mobility techniques ranging from coordination, balance, rhythm and strength. It was a great honour to have Mark in Atlantic Jiu Jitsu and to learn from his extensive knowledge! The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

May brought even more success for our team in the BJJ Irish Open. The club received two gold medal results and three bronze medal results. Members of the team were also accompanied by the Coaches and non competing members who showed great moral support. Every member who atended represented the club to the highest level.

July’s ADCC tournament brought great success for our team members. The event which took place in Naas, Co. Kildare, resulted in 5 medals being achieved after our members continuos hard work on the mats leading up to the event. Great performances put in by the team on the day.

Also in July, our team had great victory at the Sub Only Smackdown event. This took place in Blanchardstown Co.Dublin , and was attended by 4 of our club members. Our members were able to bring home 4 medals from their fights. Their continuous training and enthusiasm during classes allowed our members to come home with great results.

Our seminar with Isaque Bahiense was definitely a highlight of the year. Our 5 day long seminar was  attended by practitioners from both within our club and across the country. The world champion brought a great atmosphere to the mats! He showed various techniques each day in both Gi and No Gi training and offered advice to all attendees. The summer camp was an incredible experience for all attendees.

The Midlands Open BJJ tournament was a great success for our member Ray Casey. The tournament took place in County Laois and was attended by practitioners from all over Ireland. Ray Casey attended the tournament and succeeded in taking home the gold ! A great achievement in recognition of his hard work.

The Naga Tournament which took place in September, was another success for our members. Atlantic Jiu Jitsu members Jason McGarry and Jack Armstrong were both in attendance.Jack and Jason have put in great work in training for the event and this clearly paid off. Jack Armstrong took home the bronze medal and Jason received gold medal in NoGi and silver medal when competing with the Gi.Both members have represented Atlantic Jiu Jitsu at a very high level.
